Located 976 km northeast of the Lena railroad station. The mining of muscovite mica is the main economic activity.
Mama a river in the Buriat ASSR and Irkutsk Oblast of the RSFSR. It is a left tributary of the Vitim River. Length, 406 km (from its source in the Levaia Mama); basin area, 18,900 sq km. The Mama has its source in the Levaia Mama and Pravaia Mama on the northern slopes of the Verkhneangara ridge. It is a winding river that is fed primarily by rains. Summer rains cause flash floods and sharp fluctuations in the water level. High water is from May to September. The average flow is about 350 cu m per sec. The river freezes over in October and thaws in May. It is navigable up to 110 km from its mouth. There are mica deposits in the Mama River basin. MAMA
