(bädä`grē), town, SW Nigeria, on a lagoon off the Gulf of GuineaGuinea, Gulf of, large open arm of the Atlantic Ocean formed by the great bend of the coast of W Africa. It extends from the western coast of Côte d'Ivoire to the Gabon estuary and is bounded on the south by the equator. The bights of Benin and Biafra belong to the gulf.
..... Click the link for more information. . Badagri was founded c.1730 and became an important shipping point for slaves. In the 1840s it became a center for British Christian missionaries, and in 1863 it was annexed by Britain. Badagri declined with the end of the slave trade.
