Established: 1965. Description:Promotes the importance of parks, recreation, and leisure services. Provides professional development opportunities to individuals who work in parks and leisure services. Holds an annual Congress which gathers professionals in the field to discuss products, ideas, and activities that pertain to the preservation of parks and improving recreational activities throughout the country. NRPA consists of ten branches/sections and maintains regional offices in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, and Georgia. Members: 23,000. Dues: $35/year.
Publications: Parks & Recreation (monthly); free to members and $36/yearfor nonmembers. Journal of Leisure Research (quarterly); $40for members, $55 for nonmembers. Also publishes an electronic newsletter for members.
