killer jeans

killer jeans

Designer jeans (denim trousers) that have been artificially aged by the sandblasting (“killer process”), which exposes workers to airborne silicates resulting in silicosis, which can prove fatal within a few months. Killer jeans were first produced in 2000 in countries (e.g., Turkey, Syria, Bangladesh, Mexico, India and Indonesia), where regulation was minimal and safety standards lax. Since then, sandblasting has migrated into more unregulated regions such as South East Asia and North Africa.
