New Ways of Working team
A term used in the context of the Changing Workforce Programme, in which self-managed teams within the NHS Modernisation Agency support the delivery of major targets in The NHS Plan to improve access to, and the quality of, patient services, through various New Ways of Working initiatives (see table). The teams’ remit is to ensure there are enough appropriately trained, motivated staff members working in the right places at the right times.New ways of working
• Moving a task up or down a traditional uni-disciplinary ladder—e.g., a consultant giving care previously provided by doctors in training;
• Expanding the breadth of a job—e.g., rehabilitation practitioner across traditional professional divides and change roles;
• Increasing the depth of a job—e.g., nurse and therapy consultants;
• New jobs, combining tasks differently from before.
