a city and center of Kiliia Raion, Odessa Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, 50 km northeast of Izmail and 29 km from the Dzinilor railroad station on the Izmail-Belgorod-Dnestrovskii line. It is a port on the Kiliia branch of the Danube, 47 km from the Black Sea. Population, 24,300 (1971). It is one of the Danube’s major shipping and fishing centers. The city is the site of a ship-repair yard, a brickworks, and plants for the production of asphalt and essential oils. There are also food-processing enterprises. Kiliia has a museum of history and local lore.
