Kigelia
Kigelia
a genus of plants of the family Bignoniaceae, found in tropical Africa. The sausage tree (Kigelia pinnata) is an attractive tree with a broad, shady crown; there is leaf fall during the dry season. The flowers, which blossom either before or during the opening of the leaves, are large and red. They are pollinated by sunbirds. The fruits, which hang from the branches on long stems and resemble liver sausages (up to 60 cm long), impart a particularly strange appearance to the plant.
