müllerian duct structure

müllerian duct structure

A structure which arises from the embryonic müllerian ducts—tubules that arise lateral to the corresponding Wolffian duct and eventually develop into the abdominal ostium of the fallopian tube. With further development, the female müllerian ducts persist and those bits that lie in the genital cord fuse to form the uterus and vagina, a process that begins in the third month of development. The septum formed by their fused medial walls usually disappears; when it does not, this results in so-called uterine duplication.
