[nüt·ənz ī′dendə‚dē] (mathematics) The identity C (n, r) C (r, k) = C (n, k) C (n - k, r-k), where, in general, C (n, r) is the number of distinct subsets of r elements in a set of n elements (the binomial coefficient).
