Lake Malaren has a very complex configuration; there are numerous gulfs, bays, and capes and about 1,200 islands. Channels and canals connect the lake with the Baltic Sea and Lake Hjälmar. The lake is navigable, and tourism featuring water sports is an important industry. Stock-holm lies on the eastern shore of Mälaren. The cities of Köping and Västerås are also located on the lake. |
