Facilities:184 sites for tent and trailer camping (about half with electricalhookups), a limited number of primitive walk-in sites, 2 showerbuildings, 12 boat ramps, boat and canoe rentals, concession,restaurant, hiking and biking trails, 6 main picnic areas withshelters, drinking water, and playground equipment, horse rentals.
Activities:Camping, boating (electric motors only), canoeing, fishing, hunting, scubadiving, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding,cross-country skiing, sledding, ice fishing, ice skating.
Special Features:Kickapoo State Recreation Area is apparently the first park in thenation built on strip-mine land. Through the rejuvenative powers ofnature, a landscape once devastated by nearly a century of strip miningnow features 22 clear, deep-water ponds and thickly forested land thatprovides habitat for a variety of birds, animals, and wildflowers.
