释义 | London, MeyerLondon, Meyer(1871–1926) lawyer, politician, public official; born in Suwalki, Poland. He emigrated to New York City in 1891, and working by day and studying at night, earned admission to the bar in 1898. A specialist in labor law, he became active in leftist politics and helped found the Socialist Party of America. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a socialist (N.Y., 1915–19, 1921–23), he fought for labor reform and other progressive causes. He initially opposed U.S. participation in World War I. He was killed in an automobile accident. |
