An initiative launched in 2003 by the Learning and Policy Development Section of the UK Department of Health and spearheaded by the NHS to update the post-graduate training of junior doctors in the UK.Tangible changes
Pre-registration house officers (PRHOs) became Foundation Year 1 (FY1); senior house officers (SHOs) became FY2s. Specialist Registrar (SpRs) posts were replaced by Specialist Training (ST1, ST2, ST3) posts, or so-called “run-through training”.
