a balneoclimatic health resort in the Tadzhik SSR, 52 km north of Dushanbe, at elevations of 1,740 to 1,960 m, in a narrow gorge of the Khodzha-Obigarm River. The summers are warm, with an average July temperature of 22°C; the winters are mild, with an average January temperature of –2°C. Precipitation totals about 1,430 mm annually. Therapeutic remedies include weakly radioactive (to 30 Mache units) thermal (62°–96°C) mineral springs. The water, which has a high silicic acid content, is used for bathing, irrigation, and drinking. The silt from Lake Oksukon also has therapeutic properties. The natural steam from the springs, which rises freely to the surface, is used for general and local steam baths. Treatment is available for disorders of the musculoskeletal system, the kidneys and urinary system, the skin, the peripheral nervous system, and the female reproductive system. The resort has a sanatorium and a bath house.
