an urban-type settlement and administrative center of Khobi Raion, Georgian SSR. Khobi is located on the Khobi River, which empties into the Black Sea. It has a railroad station on the Armavir-Samtredia line. Khobi has a tea factory and a cannery.


Khobi

 

(also Khopi, Khabitskali), a river in the Georgian SSR. The Khobi measures 150 km in length and drains an area of 1,340 sq km. It originates on the slopes of the Egrisi Range and empties into the Black Sea. In the Colchis lowlands, the channel is strengthened with embankments in some places. The Khobi is fed primarily by rain and is subject to flash floods. The mean flow rate 30 km from the mouth is 44.2 cu m per sec, and the maximum flow rate is 333 cu m per sec. The chief tributary is the Chanistskali, a right tributary. The Khobi is used for irrigation.
