Okiep

a mining center in western Republic of South Africa, in Cape of Good Hope Province. Population, about 5,700. Another mining center, Nababiep (population, about 8,300), is located nearby. Okiep, linked with Port Nolloth by a highway, is a copper ore mining center; the ore deposits are exploited by the American Okiep Copper Company. Okiep has an ore-dressing plant and a copper smelter.
