Khamar-Daban
Khamar-Daban
a mountain range in the Baikal Region, chiefly in the Buriat ASSR. The Khamar-Daban is located south of the Tunka Basin and the Baikal Basin. It measures 420 km in length and as much as 65 km in width. The highest elevations are found in the west, maximum being 2,995 m, at Mount Baishint-Ula. Mountains of medium elevation predominate. The range is composed of schists, gneisses, basalts, and limestones, with many granite intrusions. The slopes are covered with cedar, fir, and pine forests to elevations of 1,500–1,800 m.
