Khalepskii, Innokentii Andreevich

Born July 2 (14), 1893, in Minusinsk; died July 29, 1938. Soviet military figure; army commander second class (1935). Member of the Communist Party from 1918.

Khalepskii was the son of a tailor. He joined the Red Army in 1918 and fought against the White Czechs and White Guard in the Urals, where he also served as chief of communications of the Third Army. In October 1918 he became commissar extraordinary of communications for all fronts, and in March 1919 he became people’s commissar for postal and telegraph services in the Ukraine. From October 1919 to June 1920, Khalepskii served as chief of communications on the Southern, Southwestern, and Caucasian fronts. In July 1920 he was appointed assistant chief and deputy chief of the Communications Administration of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army; he became chief of the administration in September of the same year.

In 1924, Khalepskii became chief of the Military Technical Administration of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army, and in 1929 he assumed the position of chief of the Administration for Motorization and Mechanization of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army. From 1934 to 1938, Khalepskii headed the Directorate of Motor Transport and Armored Troops of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army.
