National Museum of Naples

 

one of the largest museums of ancient art in Italy. It was founded in the 18th century. The museum has works of art from the Farnese, Borgia, and other family collections, as well as works recovered from excavations in southern Italy, particularly in Pompei and Herculaneum. It also owns extensive sculpture (primarily Roman), painting (frescoes and mosaics), applied art, and coin collections.
