model-based expert system

[¦mäd·əl ‚bāst ′ek·spərt ‚sis·təm] (computer science) An expert system that is based on knowledge of the structure and function of the object for which the system is designed.

model-based expert system

An expert system based on fundamental knowledge of the design and function of an object. Such systems are used to diagnose equipment problems, for example. Contrast with rule-based expert system.
