Isosurfaces

in geophysics, surfaces that can be passed through points having identical values for some particular geophysical quantity in the atmosphere, hydrosphere, or lithosphere. Isosurfaces give a clear picture of the spatial distribution of such geophysical quantities as pressure (isobaric surfaces), temperature, density (of air or water), gravitational potential, and potential of the electric or magnetic field.
