Iveriia

 

a Georgian literary and political newspaper. Published in Tbilisi from 1877 through 1906. Founded by I.G. Chavchavadze, who was its editor until 1902. From 1879 through 1886 it was a weekly publication; in January 1886 it became a daily. In 1902–03 it was edited by Al. Saradzhishvili. It was the most popular periodical in Georgia (its circulation was more than 6,000). Expressing the democratic strivings of Georgian society, Iveriia played a significant role in the national liberation movement and the development of Georgian journalism. Among those who appeared in print in Iveriia were A. Tsereteli, R. Eristavi, Vazha Pshavela, G. Tsereteli, and la. Gogebashvili.
