释义 | Keeley, EdmundKeeley, Edmund (Leroy)(1928– ) translator, academic; born in Damascus, Syria. Son of an American career diplomat, he came to the U.S.A. in 1939, earned a D.Phil. at Oxford University, England, and joined the Princeton faculty (1954). When Princeton formed its Hellenic Studies Committee, he became its head. Often in collaboration with Philip Sherrard, he translated numerous modern Greek literary works by such as C. P. Cavafy, Yannis Ritsos, and George Sefaris. His books include The Salonika Bay Murder (1989), about the murder of CBS news reporter, George Polk (1948). His brother Robert Keeley served as U.S. ambassador to Greece (1985–89), where his father had once served as a counselor at the U.S. embassy. |
