Ivan Vyrgan

Vyrgan, Ivan Anikeevich

 

Born May 19 (June 1), 1908, in the village of Matveevka in Poltavshchina. Soviet Ukrainian poet.

Vyrgan was born into a peasant family. He graduated from the philological department of the University of Kharkov in 1940. He took part in the Great Patriotic War. Vyrgan was first published in 1929. His first book of poems, Armed Lyrics came out in 1934. He praises the new socialist Ukraine, the kolkhoz villages, and the friendship of peoples. In the postwar years Vyrgan also wrote short stories and did translations.
