Kalai-Mir
Kalai-Mir
an ancient, multilevel site of a fortified town in the Nasir Khisrav settlement (ancient Kobadian) in the Tadzhik SSR, on the lower course of the Kafirnigan River. The site was excavated in 1950–51. Remains of Bactrian structures and objects of material culture of the middle of the first millennium B.C. through the first centuries A.D. were discovered. As a result of the investigations at Kalai-Mir and the nearby site of Kei-Kobad-shakh, M. M. D’iakonov worked out the first strati-graphic table of the remains of northern Bactria. Five successive historical-cultural stages (Kobadian I-V) were distinguished, dating from the sixth-fourth centuryB.C.. through the third-fourth century A.D..
