It has a scientific institute and is popular with tourists. A meteorological station is on the nearby Sphinx summit, 11,723 ft (3,573 m) high. The region is noted for its scenery and winter sports.Jungfraua mountain massif in Switzerland, in the Bernese Alps. The massif, which rises to an elevation of 4,158 m at Mount Jungfrau, is composed of schists and gneisses. It is covered with firn fields, from which glaciers descend.
