Keldysh theory Keldysh theory[′kel·dish ‚thē·ə·rē] (atomic physics) A theory of multiphoton ionization, in which an atom is ionized by rapid absorption of a sufficient number of photons; it predicts that the ionization rate depends primarily upon the ratio of the mean binding electric field to the peak strength of the incident electromagnetic field, and upon the ratio of the binding energy to the energy of photons in the field. |
