Established: Authorized on August 31, 1964.
Location:In Martinez, California, northeast of Oakland. Accessible via I-80 east to CA 4, exiting at Alhambra Ave.; and via I-680 north to CA 4, then west to Alhambra Ave. Exit.
Facilities:Picnic area, rest rooms (é), visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail. Entrance fee required.
Activities:Guided and self-guided tours, birdwatching.
Special Features:Park preserves the 14-room residence where naturalist John Muir livedfrom 1890 until his death in 1914. Site also includes the historicMartinez Adobe and a 325-acre tract of oak woodland and grassland(including Mount Wanda) historically owned by the Muir family. The sitetoday is just a small piece of the original 2,600-acre ranch.
