Ivan Mikhailovich Vavilin
Vavilin, Ivan Mikhailovich
Born Nov. 21 (Dec. 4), 1911, in the village of Boiarkeros, Ust-Sysol’sk District, modern Kortkeros Raion, Komi ASSR. Soviet Komi poet. Member of the CPSU since 1944.
Vavilin began publishing in 1939. He took part in the Great Patriotic War (1941-45). The basic theme of his poetry collections Not a Step Backward (1942) and Soviet Warrior (1944) is the courage of Soviet soldiers. Vavilin is the author of the collections of poems My Parma (1957), The Stars of Earth (1965), From Dawn to Dusk (1970), as well as poems for children, fables, and topical satires (the collection entitled The Hedgehog, 1963; the narrative poem Grandfather Taras, 1959; and others).
