isobaric counterdiffusion gas lesion disease

Pulmonology A condition seen in Pts treated with hyperbaric O2, where gas bubbling into skin and subcutaneous tissue is caused by more rapid inward diffusion of helium from the ambient atmosphere than outward diffusion of nitrogen or neon from the capillaries to the atmosphere. See Scuba diving. Cf the Bends, Caisson's disease.
