Jihlava Hills

Jihlava Hills

mountains in Czechoslovakia; the south-west part of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. They rise to an altitude of 837 m (Mount Javofice). The hills are composed chiefly of granite and gneiss and have deposits of nonferrous and precious metals. The quarrying of granite is well developed. The hills are crisscrossed by numerous rivers belonging to the Morava and Vltava river systems (the Danube and Elbe basins, respectively). Fir forests and meadows prevail, with cultivated lands on the lower slopes.
