Ivan Aleshin

Aleshin, Ivan Ivanovich

 

Born 1901, in the village of Ivanovka, Saratov Province; died Feb. 24, 1944. One of the organizers of the partisan movement in Moldavia during the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45. Member of the Communist Party after 1920.

Aleshin came from a peasant family, and from 1922 to 1933 he engaged in Party political work in the Soviet Army. In January 1933 he began Party work in the Moldavian ASSR, and from the first days of the Great Patriotic War he took part in organizing the partisan struggle of the Moldavian people. At the end of 1942, Aleshin became chief of the Moldavian Section of the Ukrainian Partisan Movement Staff and in June 1943 was appointed commissar of the First Moldavian Union of Partisan Detachments. He was awarded the Order of Lenin and several medals. Aleshin died in battle.
