Iuzhnyi Rabochii
Iuzhnyi Rabochii
(Southern Worker), a Social Democratic newspaper that was published illegally between January 1900 and April 1903. A total of 12 issues of Iuzhnyi rabochii were published—the first and second by the Ekaterinoslav committee of the RSDLP and the rest by the Social Democratic group Southern Worker, which included members of the Social Democratic organizations of Ekaterinoslav, Kharkov, and other southern cities.
Iuzhnyi rabochii fought against economism, although it did so inconsistently; in opposition to Lenin’s plan of creating a centralized party, however, the paper advocated the separatist idea of establishing regional Social Democratic associations. At the Second Congress of the RSDLP (1903), the delegates representing Iuzhnyi rabochii adopted a centrist position. In accordance with a resolution by the congress, the group Southern Worker was disbanded, and the publication of Iuzhnyi rabochii was discontinued.
