iodopsin
iodopsin[‚ī·ə′däp·sən] (biochemistry) The visual pigment found in the retinal cones, consisting of retinene, combined with photopsin. iodopsin
i·o·dop·sin (ī'ō-dop'sin), Any of three visual pigments, composed of 11-cis-retinal bound to an opsin, found in the cones of the retina. Synonym(s): visual violet [G. ion, violet, + ōps, eye, + -in] iodopsin (ī′ə-dŏp′sĭn)n. Any of a class of light-sensitive pigments found in the retinal cones of the vertebrate eye.io·dop·sin (ī'ō-dop'sin) A visual pigment, composed of 11-cis-retinal bound to an opsin, found in the cones of the retina. Synonym(s): visual violet. [G. ion, violet, + ōps, eye, + -in]iodopsin a photochemical pigment contained within CONE CELLS present in the retina of most vertebrate eyes. Iodopsin consists of RETINOL and a protein, which is different for each of the three cone pigments and as a result each of the pigments has a different colour. The three colours are blue, green and red, which correspond to the region of the visible spectrum in which each cone pigment absorbs light maximally. When bleached by absorbed light, iodopsin dissociates into retinaldehyde and the different protein group which ultimately triggers off an action potential and the production of nerve impulses in the ganglion cells leading to the optin nerve.iodopsinA photosensitive pigment found in the retinal cones of the chicken. Its maximum absorption is around 562 nm.iodopsin Related to iodopsin: photopsinWords related to iodopsinnoun a violet photopigment in the retinal cones of the eyes of most vertebratesRelated Words- cone cell
