Iurii Artiukhin

Artiukhin, Iurii Petrovich

 

Born July 22, 1930, in the village of Pershutino, Klin Raion, Moscow Oblast. Pilot-cosmonaut of the USSR. Colonel of the engineers. Hero of the Soviet Union (1974). Member of the CPSU since 1957.

Artiukhin served in air force units after graduating from the Serpukhov Military Technical Aviation School in 1950. He graduated from the N. E. Zhukovskii Air Force Engineering Academy in 1958 and remained there for additional studies. Artiukhin became a cosmonaut in 1963.

From July 3 to July 19, 1974, Artiukhin flew with P. R. Popovich aboard the Soyuz 14 spacecraft as flight engineer. On July 5, Soyuz 14 docked with the Salyut 3 space station, which had been in orbit since June 25. The Soyuz 14 flight lasted 15 days 17 hr 30 min.

Artiukhin has been awarded the Order of Lenin and various medals.
