Inzhinash

(Chinese name, Pu Heng-shang). Born May 15, 1837; died Feb. 22, 1892. Mongolian writer. Son of the writer Vanchinbal.

Until he was 34 years old, Inzhinash was a loyal subject of the Ch’ing empire, but the intensification of the liberation struggle of the masses caused a sudden change in his sentiments. He is the author of the tale Tears of the Red and of a historical novel about the first emperors of the Yüan dynasty, The Dark Blue Book (vols. 1–3; his father wrote the first eight chapters; published in full in 1933 and 1957). His novel of everyday life, One-Story Pavilion, and its sequel, Palace of Red Tears, are both influenced by the Chinese novel Dream in the Red Tower.
