Islambekov, Radzhab Kaplanovich

 

Born Dec. 30, 1925, in Tashkent. Soviet endocrinologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1969), Honored Scientist of the Uzbek SSR (1964). Member of the CPSU since 1968.

Islambekov graduated from Tashkent Medical Institute in 1947. From 1967 to 1971 he was director in the Institute of Regional Medicine in Tashkent. His principal works have been devoted to the clinical practice, morphology, and histology of the thyroid gland in its normal and pathological states and to the problems of diagnosis and treatment of thyrotoxicoses with the use of radioactive iodine (in particular, to the results of radiotherapy in diffuse and nodular toxic goiter). Islambekov received the Lenin Prize in 1964 and was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
