Iunyi Naturalist

(Young Naturalist), a monthly popular-science magazine of the Central Committee of the All-Union Lenin Communist Youth League and the Central Council of the V. I. Lenin All-Union Pioneer Organization. It was founded in Moscow in 1928 (it was not published between 1941 and 1956).

The magazine acquaints children with the diversity of the animal and plant worlds and teaches them to love nature and to conserve its resources; it also helps children develop a materialist understanding of natural phenomena and describes in easy-to-understand language recent discoveries in the biological sciences. Iunyi naturalist describes the progressive experiences of young naturalist circles, student production brigades, and school forestry sections. It provides practical advice on caring for aquariums in the column “Beyond the Glass Shore.” The section “In the Orchard or the Vegetable Garden” is for young fruit and vegetable growers. Circulation, approximately 4 million (1980). The magazine was awarded the order of the Badge of Honor in 1978.
