Ising coupling

[′ī·ziŋ ‚kəp·liŋ] (solid-state physics) A model of coupling between two atoms in a lattice, used to study ferromagnetism, in which the spin component of each atom along some axis is taken to be +1 or -1, and the energy of interaction is proportional to the negative of the product of the spin components along this axis.
