Justo, Juan Bautista

 

Born June 28, 1865, in Buenos Aires; died Jan. 8, 1928, in Los Cardales, Pilar District, Buenos Aires Province. Argentine political figure and historian.

In 1896, Justo helped found the Socialist Party of Argentina, of which he became the leader. In 1898 he supervised the translation of the first volume of Marx’ Das Kapital into Spanish. Justo was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1912, 1916, and 1920 and to the Senate in 1924. His principal work is The Theory and Practice of History (1909).
