the reservoir formed in 1972 by the dam of the Kanev Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Dnieper River, in Kiev and Cherkassy oblasts of the Ukrainian SSR. Area, 675 sq km; volume, 2. 6 cu km; length, 162 km; maximum width, about 5 km; and average depth, 4. 4 m. The level of the Kanev Reservoir fluctuates within 0. 5 m. The reservoir controls flow on a daily and monthly basis and was created to develop water transport, the power industry, and irrigation.
