In south-central MN, west of Minneapollis; established Mar 20, 1858 from Meeker County, annexed Monongalia County in Nov 1870. Name Origin: From Siouan 'place where the buffalo fish arrive,' the Indian name for several lakes at the source of the Crow River where the fish Ictiobus cyprinella, I. urus and I. bubalus go to spawn.
