Kazincbarcika
a city in northeastern Hungary, in the megye (county) of Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen. The city was founded in 1954, by the merger of three settlements. Population, 28,000 (1970). Kazincbarcika is one of the centers of brown-coal mining and the chemical industry. The city has a chemical combine that formerly used brown coal but now uses natural gas, delivered by the gas pipeline from Hajduszoboszlo; the combine produces nitrate fertilizers, caprolactam, polyvinyl chloride, and other products based on organic synthesis. Construction materials are manufactured in Kazincbarcika, and there is a steampower plant.
