Atlantic-Indian Rise
Atlantic-Indian Rise
a rise in the floor of the Southern Ocean between 0° and 35° E long., a continuation of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. It extends 3,000 km from west to east and becomes the Crozet Plateau. The rise is a Mesozoic-Cenozoic arched uplift of the ocean floor. The depths are 3,000–4,000 m, with individual seamounts rising to 315 m in the east and 413 m in the west. The floor is predominantly diatomaceous mud.
