Karasuk

 

a city (until 1954, a settlement) and center of Karasuk Raion, Novosibirsk Oblast, RSFSR. It is located on the Karasuk River in the Kulunda Plain. Karasuk is a junction for railroad lines to Barnaul, Omsk, Kulunda, and Tatarsk. Population, 23, 000 (1970). It is the site of a meat-packing plant, a flour mill, and plants for the production of canned dairy goods and dried vegetables. Karasuk has a pedagogical school. There is fishing on the lakes near Karasuk. A fish-processing plant is located in the area.


Karasuk

 

a river in Novosibirsk Oblast, RSFSR. Length, 531 km; basin area, 11, 300 sq km. The river rises and flows in a broad valley along the southern part of the Western Siberian Plain, disappearing among lakes without outlets. At high water it is connected to the Burla River by the Chuman River near the village of Karasuk-Kazakh. The city of Karasuk is situated onthe Karasuk River.
