a bitter salt lake in northeast Karaganda Oblast, Kazakh SSR.
Lake Karasor covers an area of about 154 sq km and reaches a depth of 5 m. It is situated in a broad basin. The lake bottom is miry and smells of hydrogen sulfide. The shores are low, gently sloping, and composed of clay. The water of the lake is drawn chiefly from melting snow. The lake is fed by several small rivers, which dry up in the summer. Lake Karasor freezes over in November and thaws in late April and early May. Salt is extracted from its waters.
