In central-eastern MN, north of Minneapolis; established Feb 13, 1857 (prior to statehood) from Anoka County. Name Origin: For the Izaty or Santee Indians, a tribe of the Dakotas who inhabited the area. Also spelled Issati. The name means 'knife' or perhaps 'ones who make knives.'
