Kamysh-Samar Lakes

 

a group of lakes in Ural’sk Oblast, Kazakh SSR. The lakes are located in the northeastern part of the Caspian Depression, in the lower courses of the Bol’shoi Uzen’ and Malyi Uzen’ rivers. Total area, about 6 sq km. Some of the lakes are up to 6 km long and 2. 5 m deep. Some are of the running-water type. Their water is sweetish (Lakes Gushche-Kulak, Tushche-Kulak, and Staritskoe), brackish (Lakes Raim and Sarai), or bitter brackish (Lakes Sarykulak and Aksor). The fresher lakes abound in vegetation and fish (pike-perch, perch, and pike).
