jaw winking

An inherited condition, also known as the Marcus Gunn syndrome, in which there is a drooping eyelid (ptosis) that retracts suddenly and momentarily when the mouth is opened wide or the jaw is moved firmly to one side. In some cases, the same stimulus causes a normal eye to close tightly. The condition is caused by an abnormal distribution of twigs of the motor nerves of the facial and jaw muscles. (R. Marcus Gunn, 1850–1909, Scottish ophthalmologist).
