Kreisberg, Isaak Mironovich

 

Born Mar. 7, 1898, in Kiev; died Jan. 16, 1919, in Poltava. Active participant in the struggle for the establishment of Soviet power in the Ukraine. Became a member of the Communist Party in 1914.

Kreisberg engaged in revolutionary work in Minsk, Dvinsk, and Kiev; he was in the tsarist army beginning in 1914. After the February Revolution of 1917 he was secretary of the Kiev committee of the RSDLP (Bolshevik) and a member of the Bolshevik faction of the soviet. Kreisberg was a member of the Revolutionary Committee of Kiev in October 1917 and January 1918; he took part in the armed uprising in Kiev. In 1918 he was a member of the organization bureau for the convening of the First Congress of the Communist Party (Bolshevik) of the Ukraine. At the First and Second Congresses he was elected a member of the Central Committee of the CP(B) of the Ukraine. As people’s commissar for finance he was a member of the first Soviet government of the Ukraine. He participated in 1918 in the organization of the Bolshevik underground in Odessa and the preparation of armed uprisings in Kharkov and Ekaterinoslav. In January 1919 in Poltava he was seized by the White Guards and shot.
